Winter Blogging Challenge. Winter ABC 2020 #19. 5 Songs Special To Me

There are so many challenges that have challenged me in this challenge. It’s pretty a challenging challenge. I am trying to build a challenging tongue twister to challenge y’all. Lol.

Well, as someone who uses music to get into my creative mood, a dancer, it means that music is literary in my blood. It’s my muse. It’s my escape. It’s my love language. It’s because of it that choosing only five songs that I can never do away with (not without) is one of the hardest things to do.

RnB (preferably old school and mid 2000s) and EDM music are my weaknesses especially when it comes to being creative or expressing love but today, I am going to choose from a wide range of music genres because if I stuck to one, I may have the longest list…and plus the reason why they are on the list in no particular order;

  1. Wrapped – Gloria Estefan. (2003)

To me this is the song with the best romantic lyrics. Every time I listen to it I appreciate the love that she put into each word as it moves from the speaker to my ears to my nerves and into my brain. She did all sorts of emotional justice in this song. She let all her emotions run out of her onto the piece. It’s a poem of pure, romantic master class.

Here are part of the lyrics;

“I cherish every morning that found us
With the night scattered around us
faded and painting me blue
I carry your joy in my footsteps
Making my way to your harbor
Don’t need to go any farther
You are my sun and my moon

Wrapped in your arms where it’s a peaceful
Back in your arms where I’m happy
I would do anything gladly
Only to see you again

  • Bed – Jay Holiday (2007)

On some occasions I write about bedroom matters., Hardcore romantic stuff; and this song here has some of the best bedroom lyrics in my playlist. The soft tempo of the song sets the mood right for the conjugal activities. Imagine playing it while the lights are turned down slow. Making love moves in slow motion. You got your girl pinned in all the right positions. Touching her in all the right places with Jay Holiday crooning away to your performance. Pure bedroom bliss.

Let’s get to the chorus lyrics, shall we;

Wanna put my fingers through your hair
Wrap me up in your legs
And love you till your eyes roll back
I’m tryna put you to bed, bed, bed
I’ma put you to bed, bed, bed
Then I’ma rock ya body
Turn you over
Love is war, I’m your soldier
Touchin’ you like it’s our first time
I’ma put you to bed, bed, bed
I’ma put you to bed, bed, bed

  • Check On It- Beyoncé, Bun B, Slim Thug (2005)

Admittedly, I am a fun of Beyoncé and for so many of the songs she’s done, this is my favorite. I love the intro that slim thug. To me it’s got one of the hardest intros done by a rapper but let me share the chorus lyrics;

Ooh, boy, you looking like you like what you see
Won’t you come over and check up on it
I’ma let you work up on it
Ladies let ’em check up on it, watch it while he check up on it
Dip it, pop it, twerk it, stop it, check on me tonight.

  • Pobre Diabla – Don Omar (2003)

I have always been a fun of reggaetonn music since it landed on the scene and spread like a world fire. I and my dance crew used to jam to these songs like crazy. From the kings like Daddy Yankee to Wisin and Yandel, Nina Sky, Dj Mingo, Dj Cassanova, Tonny Touch etc. Reggaetonn was the anthem in the clubs and parties mid 2000’s. Among the so many songs of this genre, there’s this song by Don Omar that really touches me in too deep. The song talks of a girl who loved a man that used her but she kept wandering the streets looking for him.

The lyrics translation in English;

“Who did not value you and who never will,
Who only made you cry,
But you love him.

Who did not value you,
When with kisses he enchanted you,
Who only used you and even impregnated you.”

  • Feel Good – Griffin, Illenium ft. Daya (2017)

Lastly, this is the song that breaks my heart. It’s an EDM song by one of my best EDM Djs Griffin. The reason why I hold it close at heart is that it was the anthem to my previous relationship. The one that broke me into depression. Listening to it together with other EDMs post-breakup turned my mind into a creative hub for some of the most emotional pieces ever since I started writing.,,, This song breaks me down inch by inch every time I listen to it. My goodness.

Take my hand in the middle of a crisis
Pull me close, show me, baby, where the light is
I was scared of a heart I couldn’t silence
But you make me, you make me feel good, I like it
Take my hand in the middle of a crisis
Pull me close, show me, baby, where the light is
I was scared of a heart I couldn’t silence
But you make me, you make me feel good, I like it.

Well, there we go. Hope you enjoyed reading about my mini-playlist and hopefully, you will listen to them and when you do, please tell me what your best song was. Thanks.
